While paddling up the Ompompanoosuc River late on afternoon I found the perfect kayak studio in the shade of this precarious tree. I’d been hard at work for a couple of hours when a small otter suddenly swam up, took one look at the painting, and quickly dove back beneath the surface. Everybody’s a critic.
